Our Honey

Nectar honey is a ripened, pure, raw and non-irradiated product. Our honey is minimally filtered to ensure only excess wax is removed from the product, keeping it as natural as possible. We use a honey extractor, which is a mechanical device and more specifically, a container that holds a spinning frame basket which flings honey out using centrifugal force. The extractor retrieves honey from the comb without destroying the comb.
These used combs are then returned to our hives for natural honey production. The honey is extracted and bottled by hand to ensure as little contamination as possible and to supply a product containing all the natural elements honey has to offer. Honey harvested from the different regions where our hives are located are kept separate as we strive to market the honey at source.
This is because consumption of local honey introduces traces of pollen to the body which may assist in desensitization, allowing the body to be less prone to allergies. Our honey is never heated above the recommended temperature and no preserves are added as raw honey never spoils.

Our Footprint
The name NECTAR originated from the acronym “North Eastern Cape Tiny Apiaries Repopulation”. The focus is on providing a sustainable natural environment for our bees to flourish. To achieve this, the different apiaries cannot be located in close proximity to one another as this would result in the overpopulation of an area. To ensure the safety of the bees, we have developed concrete hives which allow the peace of mind to place our bees in remote locations without fear of theft or vandalism or damage due to harsh natural elements, such as flood rains and veld fires.
Our regional manager, Soon, has started to expand the project into the Free State. This is due to the kind contribution of hundreds of willing farmers who are involved and provide suitable locations for our apiaries.
We are proud to say that our footprint is spread over large parts of the north Eastern Cape and southern and central Free State in the following areas:
